Dogs love these healthy and refreshing homemade frozen dog treats on a hot day. And dog mamas love them because they are easy to make with only three ingredients!

Our dog Fritz loves to sit in the sun during the summer. In addition to water, we use homemade frozen treats to help keep him cool on hot summer days.

We also have a regular rotation of foster dogs coming through. One of the things we do to get them to feel comfortable in their new environment is to give them lots of treats. Positive reinforcement is really important for all dogs.

With our dogs, we have found that both the quality of the dog treat and a bit of variety keeps their attention longer. This is probably why I have so many dog treat recipes on this site!

These homemade treats are filled with dog-friendly fruits. And gut-healthy yogurt. It is a simple recipe. But, I try to keep all my homemade dog treat recipes easy and with as few ingredients as possible. Using a small number of healthy natural ingredients is better for your dog's tummy too.

Homemade frozen yogurt dog treats are also more affordable than fancy store-bought dog ice cream. Plus you can select a mold that is appropriate for the size of your dog.

Just like our super popular Watermelon Pupsicles, these frozen treats are kid-friendly too. You can pour the blueberry yogurt mixture into a regular popsicle mold. Who doesn't love an all-natural treat that does double duty?

🧾Frozen Dog Treat Ingredients

Yogurt-Use unsweetened plain Greek yogurt. If you are concerned about your dog's weight a lower fat version is fine. But use plain yogurt as flavored yogurt has artificial sweeteners that can be bad for your pup.

Like people, a small percentage of dogs are lactose intolerant. You can substitute chicken stock if needed. Do not substitute non-dairy yogurt.Too many nuts can be bad for dogs.

Blueberries-Fresh, freeze-dried, or frozen blueberries all work in this recipe. Dried blueberries typically have added sugar and should be avoided. Fresh strawberries and cranberries work in this recipe too.

Banana- Half a mashed ripe banana is all you need. This will add natural sweetness and texture to the dog treat.

Frozen Dog Treat Molds

Iuse a mold that is oven and freezer safe. I prefer to use silicone molds because the treats are very easy to remove with minimal mess. Your basic ice cube trays will work as well.

I suggest taking into account your dog's size when selecting a mold. You don't want the portion size to be too large or small for the dog's size.

Small molds for big dogs mean the dog is more likely to swallow the treat whole, which means it is likely to come back up. Sorry, that is gross but it's true.

For large dogs, you can use asilicone baking cup, small paper cups, or muffin tin. When using a muffin tin you may need to set it in a tray of warm water to loosen them

⏲️How to Make Frozen Dog Treats

This dog treat recipe is as simple as blending and pouring. But there are a few tips that I want to share.

First, puree the blueberries. I see cute pictures of treats with whole blueberries. But when whole fruits are in your dog's treats they can be surprised when the frozen yogurt melts and a berry pops out. A small dog may choke and we don't want that!

Storing Frozen Dog Treats

I prefer to remove the pupsicles from the molds to save freezer space. They last up to 3 months in a freezer bag.
